Silence Your Inner Editor to do your Best Writing

Silence Your Inner Editor to do your Best Writing

Published April 21, 2026

One of the biggest breakthroughs for any writer is realizing that "waiting for inspiration" is a trap. If you’re stuck, keep your hand moving. Literally write, “I’m stuck” or “I don’t know what to say next” until the gears start turning again.

Great writing doesn't start with perfect word choices and fully-formed paragraphs. It starts with a mess, and this is why we normalize the "ugly" draft. Having a page full of half-finished thoughts, bullet points, and off-topic tangents is infinitely better than a blank screen.

I know it’s hard to let a draft be messy—especially when the stakes are high. But "messy" is how you beat procrastination and the temptation to let AI do the thinking for you. The path to your best writing is always through the revision of a terrible first draft.

Tell your "inner editor" to sit down and be quiet. You have work to do.
